Mother: You don't understand it? Why do you still keep this book?
Father: It's a hot topic this week as Professor Hawking will have a talk in HKUST. Everyone talks about him. Likewise, I don't play football but I necessarily watch the WorldCup.
Son: Dad, you studied Science in secondary school. It's just a common topic in Physics and Chemistry. I suppose that you've understood it.
Father: Don't be silly. You'll be laughed as a disabled guy if you claim so.
Son: Why do you still read his book? You used to teaching me to leave Pure Science alone.
Father: Yes, good boy. I'll donate it to a public library next week.
Thanking Prof. Shing-Tung Yau 丘成桐 教授 for inviting Prof. Stephen Hawking to Hong Kong, the spirit of truth hunting has been sparked on the island of trend hunting(, for a week at least).
Because of his visit, Black Hole and Spacetime becomes trendy words. Similar to typical trendy words, few people will try to understand their meaning. Most people pronounce them (not say, not talk, not discuss) and explore something else instead. Let's review their focuses:
In fact, his speech given in the Inaugural Lecture of Institue for Advanced Study aimed at demonstrating various theories about the Origin of the Universe. This topic is large and involves various topics. They cannot be simply reported by only a few words "the Origin of the Universe", certainly much longer than the above news.
Unfortunately some people claim that there is no truth but the trend creates. Before the trend comes, the truth was planted; when the trend comes, the truth is claimed; after the trend leaves, the truth will no longer exist. They prove it by pointing that only a few companies still exist in the list of Fortune 500 after half century. Anything can change and no eternal truth can last. Hong Kong is a place full of speculation (Sorry, it can't be called as Investment.) and many people believes that "Trends override Wisdom".
This wrong concept confuses the truth. In addition, many and many teenages inherit this mistake. For example, Sammy and Kitty 森美小儀, two famous DJs of Commercial Radio Hong Kong 香港商業電台, raised a public poll called "Which female artiste would you most like to sexually assault?" "我最想非禮的女藝人". This show had been condemned by the public and the Broadcasting Authority had punished the DJs and the radio company. However, some teenages said that the mistake was not serious and the penalty was too heavy. They even claimed that the authority assaulted the speech freedom of the DJs. They are holding a movement to support the DJs. I think that before they do so, they should understand why Sexual Assault is defined as Criminal Case instead of Civil Case. They should learn how to respect others as well as protect themselves. They should understand the meaning of Freedom and Humor.
The truth is it without compromise.
