Socratic Selling

Image
One of my mentors recommended this book called Socratic Selling: How to Ask the Questions That Get the Sale to improve my selling and consulting skills which are quite applicable in various scenarios. The book's structure is straightforward. The beginning chapters explain the importance of socratic method, which is well known a form of cooperative argumentative dialogue between individuals, based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and to draw out ideas and underlying presuppositions. It highlights 3 socratic principles: Respect the customer, Help the customer think and Help the customer made decisions . The remaining chapters explain how to apply along the sales cycle, i.e., opening, advancing and closing. The opening aims at letting the customer speak what he wants in the underlying. The book advises a socratic opener structure, i.e. Say you are prepared . e.g. Mr. Customer, I'm prepared to talk about the Product, which we discussed on the ph...

The Loyalty Leap

Image
I read this book, The Loyalty Leap - Turning Customer Information into Customer Intimacy , due to my business. I found this book quite inspiring. If you are working for loyalty, you may find new insight and redirect your work. In summary, the author  Bryan Pearson shared his practical experience of loyalty program to explain what loyalty program is, why loyalty program is needed and how loyalty program is run. Loyalty is not simply about collecting customer data and offering benefits. There are considerations to guide you do the right things. Every enterprise is talking about loyalty, every CEO aims at loyalty but not everyone understands what it should look like. Loyalty is not a set of numbers or a couple of pay or gift but human behaviours as well as continuous growth of an enterprise.  The book starts with 3Rs of loyalty (maybe the author created), which are Rewards , tangible thank-you given and tailored to consumers, Recognition , appreciation to consumers' commitment t...

UHackFin 2017

Image
I jumped into an amazing adventure last week. That was called UHackFin, a hackathon of FinTech. The organizer was Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. In the hackathon, participants were required to submit a FinTech idea with deliverables in 24 hours. I joined it as an individual but formed a very energetic team with talents there. Each of us had different backgrounds. Although we had to spend more time to understand and explain to each other, the diversity made us consider questions from diversified points of view. This made us learn a lot. In order to memorize what we have learnt, I jotted the notes as the below for everyone's reference. Know Your Customer (KYC) Overcoming Know Your Customer (KYC) Compliance Challenges Hong Kong needs centralised digital database to comply with KYC, says government Trulioo Blockchain InterPlanetary File System Truffle Framework User Experience (UX) Design Marvel App Sketch Dribbble

Fundamental QA Formula

Quality is a big topic. Everyone talks about it but just few of people know detail. More people talk about Quality Control and Quality Assurance, fewer people consider Quality Management. I met the founder of Explora Testing and she is a QM professional. She shared some bullet points of QM which are valuable to our works. Formula to use on Bug Find rate and Bug detection rate are following: Bug find rate = Number of failed cases/Total test cases executed in the software or number of failed bugs/total test cases executed. Defect detection Percentage = Number of bugs or failed cases discovered by IT team/ [Number of bugs discovered by IT Team+ Number of bugs or tickets being issued by users]. Notes: To measure the success of testing before and after that Functional Testing tester is hired can consider the following: First to have that tester improve test coverage and make sure test cases can cover at least acceptance (entry criteria), system integrity, data integri...

Back to Sony

Image
After I had used iPhone 3G for 4 years, I did not decide to go to iPhone 4. This is because the design of iPhone 4 lacks of such human characteristics as warm feeling, comfortably touching, eye catching, not machine like appearance, etc that typical Apple products possess. Therefore, I decided to go to Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro. This phone is small, easy holding and untypical shape, what's more, it consists of Sony's consistently high quality of camera and display screen. It is not necessarily to talk more about the software, which is Android. The core is standard but the user interface is customized by Sony. The UI is very suitable for such small as 3 inch large monitor. For example, the four corner menu allows the phone to have more icons but use less space. This phone is my third Sony's phone. I used Z200 and W810i. The former is known as special shape and the analog clock accessory. The latter is good at camera and music player. Someone said that Sony was Apple Inc....

Rich Guy Poor Guy

My friend told me that the one who took Louis Vuitton handbag was looked down by her colleague. Too luxury? No, in contrast, too cheap, they thought, it was a bad taste. On the other hand, I met Mr. Rich Guy by chance. His blogs are the well known as Poor Guy HK and Rich Guy HK , which were reported by a local media. Poor Guy HK is a blog of exploring any recent advantages and benefits so that poor guys can save some money; Rich Guy HK is a blog of studying any investment opportunity so that typical guys can earn more to become a rich guy. Which brand of handbag will you take? It depends on your first step of money management.

Disneyland No More

She and I visited Hong Kong Disneyland four years ago when she was just my friend while we visited it again four years later as this year when she has become my wife. HK Disneyland 20-21 Mar 2010 Thanking Dragon Jewelry for giving us a package of 1-night Disneyland Hotel with 2-day Disneyland access , we could enjoy the so-called Victorian residence and stay in the smallest disneyland for very long time. My wife, who is crazy about any Disney's stuff, however said that she wanted to leave it as soon as possible and she missed home! Over four years, the theme park has had no change at all, except the establishment of It's A Small World and the missing of the train and Lion King Festival. We finished our walk by just half a day. Although our package was the one with seaview and balcony, only a part of seaview could be seen and the balcony was dirty. What's more, the border of the bathroom mirror was broken. One of the cups, which looked quite elegant was very dirty inside. ...

Third Macau Travel

I traveled Macau last weekend. It was the third time for me to go sightseeing in Macau, although I have visited Macau many times because of my relatives. By comparing my three times of travel experiences, we can see the change of Macau along the years. Macau 20-21 Feb 2010 The first travel was in the Fall of 2005. It was the time just after the Historic Centre of Macau was inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Although the monopoly system of gambling was ended in 2002, Macau still remained itself as a silent and simply island with long history. The second travel was in the Fall of 2006. I saw the rapid change of Macau. Both the traditional and the advanced were fused at the island. We visited hundreds year buildings, ate local foods and entered casinos invested by foreign ventures. Only SANDS and Wynn were many enough to make waves in the gambling industry. I stayed at Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16 Hotel, which was a five star hotel managed by a french venture. There have been many ...

Consumerism

The Day After Tomorrow

The Day After Tomorrow is a sci-fic movie about Global Warming. In the movie, Global Warming changed the weather and cracked polar ice shelves. The melting of icebergs disrupted the ocean current, as a result, the temperature dropped down rapidly and the world went to Ice Age. The above is the plot of the sci-fic, yet the same plot happens in the reality. It happens not in the real world, but the financial world. Because of the financial crisis (or so-called Financial Tsunami) due to overexpansion of loans and derivatives, banks restrict their loan applications and cut companies' overdrafts. Therefore, many companies, especially for SME, suffer from capital turnover trouble. It leads weaker companies to bankrupt and the bankruptcy makes others worse as a domino effect. Perhaps we have entered the ice age of finance or another Great Depression.
